HOPE vd FAITH

hope is never definite - the problem with the christian view of hope being a 'certainty' is that it removes the joy and the pain of pursuing God to obtain his reward as offered

Translation: When you see a verse in the New Testament , you can usually substitute "anticipation" or "confidence" for "hope" and have a new look at the meaning of the verse. NT hope isn't uncertain. God keeps His promises.

The Koine Greek word most often translated "hope" in the New Testament is elpis from a primitive root elpo (to anticipate, usually with pleasure); English synonymns include expectation and confidence. ref: Strong's Exhaustive Concordance
