Oh Amy, do I have a story to tell you about the power company. My wife had been in our apartment for over a year, 13 months to be exact, and we never received a power bill. We assumed it was part of the rent. All of a sudden we get a little card from the power company saying they show power being used at this address, but they have no name for the address. And to please fill out the card with our name, etc, and send it back. We did this thinking, it's still part of our rent and the landlord never told them the new tenants info. Or worst case scenario, they are going to start sending us the bill from now on. OH NO. They send us a letter stating we are going to have to start paying our monthly power bill (this is fine) AND they are going to bill us for the past 13 months. This was THEIR OWN (admitted bu them) mistake, yet we still had to pay for it (according to the state attorney general's office, who we immediately called upon receiving the letter) even though we never signed any contract stating we wanted their service. All in all, the lady we dealt with there was very nice and let us pay it back little by little over the past year, each month in addition to regular months bill. But it still gets me PO'd thinking that I had to pay for THEIR year-long oversight. I really wish we had a lawyer back then.
